Assured Environments’ president, Andrew Klein, has been appointed to chair the Bed Bug Committee of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA). Assured Environments is the oldest and largest pest management company in New York, and Klein has been at the helm of the family-owned business since 1989.
Klein began serving as the chairperson of the NPMA’s newly-created Bed Bug Steering Committee when it was officially formed earlier this month. In this role, he will help the division set priorities, develop a work plan and provide guidance on key issues, among other duties. The committee held its first meeting October 21 in conjunction with the NPMA’s annual PestWorld conference in New Orleans.
“The committee includes distinguished individuals from reputable pest management companies all across the nation, and we are honored to be a part of it,” said Andrew Klein. “The appointment as chairperson is a recognition of our company as a whole and all of the good work we do here at Assured Environments.”
The Bed Bug Committee is an offshoot of the NPMA’s Blue Ribbon Bed Bug Task Force, which was developed about a year ago to address the growing issue of bed bugs. Since then, the short-term task force has made considerable strides towards developing a coherent, unified industry response to the re-emergence of bed bugs, including best management practices, standards for insect-detecting canines, positions on a range of policies and overseeing the development of a wide range of educational and outreach materials. Now, its work will be continued by the association’s new Bed Bug Committee.
The NPMA’s Bed Bug Committee will complement its existing departments: fumigation, wildlife, commercial pest control and lawn care, as well as its broad efforts. Established in 1933, the NPMA is a non-profit organization that supports the pest management industry’s commitment to the protection of public health, food and property. Today, it has more than 7,000 members worldwide.
